When we sat down to write this list, we got a little bit of Imposter Syndrome and wondered what made us even qualified to compile these accounts. Then it came to our attention that between all of us at McLernon & Co., our team has spent over 300 hours on Instagram in the last six months…. so we figured we are qualified to put together this list of awesome Reno Instagram profiles. We’re going to publish lists like these every quarter, because there’s so many awesome accounts we can’t fit them all here.
A requirement for this list was that they couldn’t be huge, well known Reno related accounts. We all have our favorite Instagram accounts that have accrued thousands of followers and have larger audiences than most small market local news stations. We all see the serenity of Lake Tahoe featured on the Reno-Tahoe account and the breathtaking expanse of the Nevada wilderness captured by Travel Nevada. These accounts are awesome, but we wanted to highlight some of the lesser known, but still rad, accounts.
With all of the awesome Insta accounts here, it’s easy to overlook or forget about the more niche accounts in Reno. With the Truckee River, Tahoe Mountains and breathtaking sunsets over the Truckee Meadows, Reno is a breeding ground for wonderful photos and excellent Instagram content. More than just wonderful photos, Reno cultivates a culture unlike any city (we’re catching up, Portland/Austin) that permeates within everyone who lives here. This quirky city culture creates rad, genuine people who take to Instagram to share their stories. If we missed a good account, leave us a comment either on social or here on the blog – we want to see the accounts you think are rad!
Here’s a quick roundup of a few of McLernon & Co.’s favorite Instagram accounts in Reno. (in no particular order):
Reno is Rad is a beautifully curated group of photos promoting all things Reno without any catch or business affiliations. This account genuinely loves pointing out how Rad Reno is! They also started the hashtag #RenoIsRad which now has over 18,000 uses and is one of our favorite Reno hashtags.
West Elm is one of our favorites for how they repost people like crazy which gives them a beautifully organized feed. On top of that, West Elm is CONSTANTLY hosting community events for the Reno makers, do-ers, and get shit done-ers. THEY SUPPORT LOCAL PEEPS!
If you like all things magical, whimsical, beautiful, you’ll love Melissa. She takes every day Reno and puts a rainbow filter on it. Full disclosure, Melissa is a good friend of our fearless leader Amanda and they work together frequently, but her account is undoubtedly strong enough to stand on its own.
Abbey Kay is a coffee connoisseur, beauty expert, and blogger extraordinaire. Her blog is as soft as the skin products she recommends and as cozy as the coffee she raves about. She consistently supports Reno businesses through her blog, recommending specific products or shops from the Reno area for people to check out. We always check out the brands she recommends and have yet to be disappointed.
This momma makes us want to be a momma (even our lone male team member, Connor). She combines her business, her family and her style into this hybrid personal-business account with the result being an absolutely perfectly curated gallery. Full Disclosure, she is also personal friends with Amanda, but again, her account is ah-ma-zing.
When you look at her following you’ll be like “no way is she located here!” but she is! She’s on our list even though she has a lot of followers, because not a lot of people know she’s based here, and she takes some of the cutest places in Reno and makes them as fab as she is. She may not overtly give shoutouts to Reno, but those who look closely enough can see locales and spots from some of downtown Reno’s most picturesque locations.
This is another pseudo-personal-business hybrid account for Sam, who owns Sierra Water Gardens with her husband. Between their dogs, their hikes and their beautiful gardens this is EASILY one of our top three fave accounts in Reno where Sam doesn’t beat you over the head with salesy posts, but instead shares content her followers genuinely enjoy. If you need a super ‘grammable spot, Sierra Water Gardens is our favorite place in Reno.
Anyone who has met Shelby knows this girl radiates kindness and creativity, and her Instagram does a helluva job displaying that. Not only does she post stylistic photos without the over-the-top “Instagram model” feeling, but she constantly supports the Reno community (especially those younger than her) by speaking at seminars and promoting up-and-coming content creators’ work.
Full Disclosure again, Mike and Amanda are also friends, but it doesn’t take a friendship to notice Mike’s witty sense of humor and his passion for Reno. Mike, who is a reporter for the RGJ, is constantly breaking stories (mostly breaking on Facebook, but his Insta still features them) that are relevant to people who are obsessed with Reno, and his 365 photo project shows sides of Reno that we don’t see other accounts showing. He’s a great visual storyteller and he’s worth a follow!
